2008-2009 DRESS CODE POLICY ALL SCHOOLS
- Students will adhere to the dress code at all times while on campus. Teachers and/or administration will conduct enforcement of the dress code. Students and appropriate school office will be notified, in writing, of the violation and related consequence. Repeat violators will receive consequences that increase in length and severity, up to and including suspension from class, school and/or withdrawal or expulsion from CVCS.
- With the exception of the approved Dickies, some identified exceptions, and team sports clothing, all pants, shorts, skirts, sweaters and shirts must be purchased from True Grits. Sweatshirts may be purchased from True Grits or CVCS. Purchase clothing in the appropriate sizes, following the guidelines described below. It is the responsibility of the student and parent/guardian to assure that the student is in proper attire while at school and at all school activities and events.
- Pants & Shorts: Pants and shorts may not be oversized, baggy, torn, rolled, have the seams split, or non-hemmed. Undergarments must not be visible. Blue jeans are permitted on Fridays or specially designated days only.
- Skirts: Skirts may be no more than 3 inches above the knee, must not be tight, torn, cut, or rolled at the waist. An administrator may deem a skirt too tight or too short.
- Shirts: The shirt may be untucked. Bare midriffs are not permitted. Ill-fitting shirts will be considered a dress code violation. Therefore, shirts should be purchased with this in mind. Undershirts or undergarments must be solid (no logos, writing or drawings) and shall be white or navy.
- Sweaters & Sweatshirts: Sweaters and sweatshirts must be purchased from True Grits or CVCS. Uniform shirts or solid white or navy T-shirts must be worn under sweaters and sweatshirts. Hoods are not to be worn indoors.
- Jackets: Acceptable jackets are to be of a neutral color such as navy (preferred) or khaki, or be purchased from True Grits or CVCS. CVCS athletic team jackets may also be worn as outer jackets. Jackets may be hooded, although hoods are not to be worn indoors.
- Socks/Tights: Boys are required to wear socks at all times. Socks are to be solid white, navy, black or khaki. Girls may wear crew, knee-high socks or full-length tights. Thigh-high socks are not permitted. Socks/Tights must be solid white, navy, or black. Fish net or textured stockings are not permitted.
- Hats: To wear hats during normal school hours is not permitted; this includes beanies, stocking hats and CVCS baseball caps.
- Hair: All hairstyles are to be neat, clean and of natural color. Unbecoming, bizarre or distracting hairstyles and/or colors will not be permitted. In case of questionable styles, school administrators have the discretion to determine what is appropriate. Males: Hair may only extend to mid-ear on the sides, above the eyebrows in front, and above the collar in back.
- Grooming: All male students must be clean-shaven. Sideburns may not extend below the bottom of the ear, are to be neatly trimmed, and square cut at the bottom. Students failing to shave will be asked to shave while at school. Failure to comply with such requests may result in suspension from class or school.
- Accessories: Male students may not wear earrings during school hours or at any school functions or events. For all students, body-piercing objects are not to be seen including nose, tongue and belly rings, etc. Chains are not permitted, for example, from belt loop to wallet. Bandanas are not to be worn in any fashion. Markings, tattoos (permanent or temporary) must be covered. Accessories that the administration determines as inappropriate (at their discretion) are not permitted.
- If shirt is tucked: Belts are mandatory for all students when wearing clothes with belt loops. Belts must be of appropriate style, length and color to the uniform. No oversized belt buckles, metal studs or other patterns are permitted. Belts must be worn at the natural waist. Belt buckles must not contain inappropriate designs or logos.
- Make-up: Females: Make-up, if worn, must be in good taste. Excessive make-up and/or extreme colors are not permitted. Males are not permitted to wear make-up.
- Shoes: Shoes must be in neat condition, and closed at the toe. Extreme or faddish shoes are not permitted (platforms, slippers, sandals, combat or construction boots, steel-toe boots/shoes, moccasins, Ugg-type boots,). Both shoes must be of the same color and style. Heels more than 2” are not permitted. Shoes must be worn on campus at all times and at all school events and activities.
- Gang Related Attire: Any items of clothing, jewelry or markings that appear to be gang related are not permitted and will be investigated.
AUTHORIZED WARDROBE Boys (ALL SCHOOLS)

Long Pants
Shorts
Belts
- Belts are not mandatory but highly suggested for all students when wearing clothes with belt loops. Belts must be of appropriate style, length and color to the uniform. No oversized belt buckles, metal studs or other patterns are permitted. Belts must be worn at the natural waist. Belt buckles must not contain inappropriate designs or logos.
Uniform Shirts
- Navy or white Polo w/Logo (short or long sleeve). Hawaiian shirt. White oxford (short or long sleeve) tucked in at the waist. Combination of long sleeve shirt under short sleeve polo: navy or white. Navy or white turtleneck shirts, with or without CVCS logo, may be worn under polo shirt with logo, or with a sweatshirt with logo. Shirts may or may not be tucked in at the waist.
CVCS T-Shirts / School Athletic Shirts
- Any CVCS T-shirts purchased through CVCS ASB, performing arts, etc., are to be worn only on approved days designated by the school administration. Only shirts designated to be worn on those days will be permitted. Athletic team “game day” shirts are only to be worn on the day of games (Friday for Saturday games) with school wardrobe pants, shorts, or other approved by administrators. Athletes must only wear the shirt designated for their sport during the season of the sport.
Sweatshirts
- White or navy, pullover or zipper, with or without hood, with Logo (or CVCS Special Editions). Only school-approved shirts may be worn under sweatshirts.
Outerwear
- Acceptable jackets are to be of a neutral color such as navy (preferred) or khaki, or be purchased from True Grits or CVCS. CVCS athletic team jackets may also be worn as outer jackets. Jackets may be hooded, although hoods are not to be worn indoors.
CVCS Athletic Team Wear
- Athletic team shirts or sweaters are authorized if from the current year and the student is a part of the team. Coaches will obtain administration approval for their team clothing.
Fridays
- Standard blue jeans may be worn each Friday or other designated days. These jeans must only be worn with the current year’s designated CVCS T-shirt or other designated shirt that day. Jeans are to be worn at the natural waist. Low cut jeans are not acceptable. Jeans are to be neat and clean. Jeans must not have rips or holes.
AUTHORIZED WARDROBE GIRLS (ALL SCHOOLS)

Students must remain in authorized wardrobe while on campus from 7:00am – 3:30pm.
Skirts
- Authorized skirts to be no more than 3” above the knee, sold by True Grits in-store or at www.truegrits.com (school code CAP009).
- Junior High & High School Students ONLY may also wear navy or khaki skirts which are knee length or longer from Dickies, purchased at www.dickies.com in the following style: Girls Carpenter Skirt #29969. No other Dickies styles are approved.
Long Pants

- Navy or khaki shorts or skort purchased from True Grits in-store or at www.truegrits.com (school code CAP009). No Dickies shorts are approved. No cargo shorts are permitted.
